GVHA Hockey round 12

Under-12 Benalla vs Euroa:

The under-12 Tigers had great fun playing Euroa, including Steele Adams, Darcy Mort and Finn Thompson, who all played strongly against their normal teammates.

Centre forward Amity Hurd provided effective fast energy to start Benalla off, supported by captain Luci Hurd who stepped up her game, pushing through from the wing.

Hadassah Adams donned the goalie gear after a year away and excelled, including repelling two goals from brother Steele.

Full back Annie Ferguson effectively halted many of Euroa’s forwards, including a great run into the circle by Finn.

Kobe Rawlings made an incredible fast break down the whole field to score early, with Alida Ferguson shadowing in support.

Mackenzie Mort was again determined to gain possession, with fast passes through to Jack Chittick down the field for Chittick to score.

Great positioning and second attempts by Xavier Kramer won him the coach’s award, and he assisted Rawlings win Benalla’s third goal out of a hotly contested penalty corner.

Under-14 Mooroopna-Benalla vs SYC:

Mooroopna again improved to play a strong second half, holding SYC in the rain to just six early goals.

Sophie Winkler made some great stops, earning her most valuable player, while Callum Thompson was a much needed full back against the tough SYC.

Erin Jenkins and Xavier Kramer combined well as inner and wing, running some good balls down the sides.

Jack Chittick filled in and made some amazing hits and traps as a half back.

Umpire best and fairest votes: 3 – Abbie Vaivads, 2 – Riley Law, 1 – Jack Chittick.

Under-17 Mooroopna-Benalla vs SYC:

Charlie Grimwade and Kiah Atkinson were fantastic full backs against some very quick, skilful SYC players.

Amber Armstrong made some amazing tackles in the midfield as a half back, and Sophie Morton learnt some new positioning and attacking skills as an inner.

Despite losing 12:0, the Benalla juniors played a fantastic game and worked well with the Mooroopna players even though they aren’t able to train regularly as a team.

They look forward to semi-finals on August 20.

Umpire best and fairest votes: 3 – Josiah Moore, 2 – Amber Armstrong, 1 – Millar Carter.
