Sunday, July 10 saw Benalla Swimming Club hold its first swimming meet since the pandemic began.
The short-course meet was held in the 25m indoor pool at the Benalla Aquatic Centre.
It was fantastic for the Benalla swimmers to be able to compete at their home pool with fellow competitors coming from across the north-east and Melbourne.
The club was well represented across the events, with all Benalla swimmers achieving personal best times in one or more events. Senior swimmer Liam Kidgell recorded a Victorian country qualifying time in the 100m backstroke event.
Results:
Liam Kidgell: 1st: 100m backstroke, 200m IM (individual medley); 2nd: 100m freestyle; 3rd: 200m freestyle.
Ellen Sambell: 2nd: 100m butterfly.
Patrick Sambell: 1st: 50m butterfly; 2nd: 50m freestyle, 100m IM; 4th: 100m freestyle.
Libby Ferguson: 2nd: 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle; 4th: 100m breaststroke, 100m IM.
Xavier Hall: 2nd: 50m backstroke; 3rd: 50m breaststroke; 4th: 200m freestyle.
Relay teams: 2nd: 14&O 200m freestyle and 200m medley; 4th: 13&U 200m freestyle.
It was the first meet organised by the new committee and the day ran smoothly, with great feedback from the Swimming Victoria officials.
Specials thanks go to all the volunteers that helped on the day and especially to Catherine and Jo, who were the event co-ordinators.
Benalla swimmers have also represented their club at recent short-course meets in Wangaratta and Shepparton, with impressive personal results.
Benalla Swimming Club has places available for new members in its junior, development and senior squads.
The club provides tailored coaching programs designed to improve swimming technique and overall fitness in a positive and fun environment. Come and try sessions are available.
