Benalla Table Tennis: Redbacks, All Stars, Owls dominate

A-grade:

Redback 3, Possums 2:

The Redbacks, William Tong and Flynn Mosley, had a 3-2 victory over the Possums, Wayne Phillips and Patrick Cornell.

Tong beat Phillips in straight sets and the ever-improving Cornell had a three-set win over Mosley.

The doubles went the way of the Redbacks in four sets.

Phillips beat his grand final nemesis, Mosley, in three sets, and Tong beat Cornell in four to give the Redbacks the win.

All Stars 4, Kangas 1:

The All Stars, Paul Hossack and Brian Harrington, had a 4-1 win over the Kangas, Michelle Feldtmann and Rob Erskine.

Hossack beat Erskine in straight sets as did Harrington over Feldtmann.

The doubles went to four sets, with the All-Stars emerging victorious.

Harrington beat Erskine in four sets, and Feldtmann claimed a three-set win for her team against Hossack.

Plovers 3, Kookaburras 2:

The Plovers, Shaun Murphy and Logan Hyland, won 3-2 against the Kookaburras, John Holschier and Julien Timmins. Murphy beat Holschier in three sets. Timmins levelled the scores with a straight-sets win over Hyland. The Plovers won the doubles in three. Murphy won in straight sets over Timmins, and Holschier beat Hyland in three tight sets.

Crocodiles 3, Taipans 2:

The Crocodiles, Sienna Bajada and Phil Keast, were smiling after their 3-2 win over the Taipans, John Bajada and Adrian Pizzey. Bajada had a straight-sets win over her father, John. Keast beat Pizzey in four sets. The Taipans won the doubles in three sets. Bajada beat Pizzey in three sets, and John beat Keast in three sets.

Owls 5, Yellowbellies 0:

The Owls, Stephen Lane and Paul Shea, had a 5-0 win over the Yellowbellies, Gareth Burnell and Stephen Mahon.

All matches were straight sets except for Shea’s very close five-set win over Burnell.

B-grade:

Gliders 3, Frogs 2:

The Gliders, Wesley Shea and John Spencer, won 3-2 against the Frogs, Chris Seely and Lois Hermiston.

Shea won in four sets over Seely and Hermiston beat Spencer in straight sets in the opening sets.

The Gliders then won the doubles in three sets.

Lastly, Shea had a straight-sets win over Hermiston, as did Seely against Spencer.

Mozzies 4, Wombats 1:

The Mozzies, Brian Perry and Daniel Wright, won 4-1 against the Wombats, Pauline Hooper and Rae Spencer.

Perry won a hard-fought five-set match against Hooper, and Wright won against Spencer in straight sets to begin the match-up.

The Mozzies won the doubles in straight sets. Hooper won a five-set match against Wright, and Perry won in three against Spencer.

Cricket 3, Numbat 2:

The Crickets, Carol Perry and Gerry Maloney, won 3-2 against the Numbats, Graeme Sharp and Mehdi Zamani.

Perry won a five-set match against Sharp and Zamani won in four close sets against Maloney to start off the game.

It was a four-set win to the Crickets in the doubles.

Sharp beat Maloney in four very close sets. Perry had a solid three-set win over Zamani to finish proceedings.

Cockies 4, Joeys 1:

The Cockies, Chris Goode and George Abaunza, won 4-1 against the Joeys, Alejandro Diaz and Ray Grant.

Goode won in straight sets against Diaz and Grant had a straight-sets win over Abaunza.

Afterwards, the Cockies won the doubles in four sets.

The final two matches went to five sets, with Abaunza beating Diaz and Goode winning against Grant.

C-grade:

Crows 3, Eagles 2:

The Crows, Jack Erickson and Josh Kirley, won 3-2 against the Eagles, Lily Kipping and Brendan Kipping.

Erickson won a comfortable three-set match against Kipping and Brendan won a close four-set match over Kirley.

The Crows won the doubles in straight sets.

To finish things off Kirley beat Lily in four sets as did Brendon over Erickson.

Jays 3, Magpies 2:

The Jays, Christine Nicholas and Val Kipping, won 3-2 against the Magpies, Greg Cornell and Andrew Morris.

In a tight match-up the first three matches went to five sets, with Nicholas winning against Cornell, Morris beating Kipping, and the Jays winning the doubles.

Cornell then won in four sets over Kipping, and Nicholas beat Morris in three.

Falcons 3, Finiches 2:

The Falcons, Beth Grant and Peter Cruickshank, won 3-2 against the Finches, Saasha Silva and Andy Donaldson.

Grant won in straight sets against Silva and Donaldson beat Cruickshank in four sets to start things off.

The Finches won the doubles in straight set before Cruickshank beat Silva in four sets, and Grant won in five against Donaldson.
