Seymour Blasters once again showcased their dominance over the weekend, producing a trio of victories across both the men’s and women’s teams.
A double-header saw the men’s Blasters improve their record to 8-0, as they easily accounted for Mansfield at home on Saturday night and Myrtleford on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Currently sitting pretty atop the Country Basketball League North East Men division ladder, the Seymour boys were at their best all weekend long as they defeated the Eagles 96-53 and Saints 108-55.
The first match, which took place at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre, saw the Blasters produce a complete team performance in front of an adoring home crowd.
Eden Hobbs was the star of the night for the Blasters, as he dropped 27 points in a break-out performance.
Robbie Sartori (17), Tyler Best (13), and Zac Donoghue (10) all provided great support to lift Seymour to the 43-point win.
The early stages of the match were extremely competitive, as Mansfield played with great vigour and energy to match it with the Blasters.
In what was an incredibly entertaining first quarter, Seymour still found itself four points ahead despite the Eagles putting 16 on the board.
From then, however, the reigning premiers turned it into a rout.
Tightening the screws on the defensive end, the Blasters were able to blow the advantage out to 19 at the main change, and from there they kept their foot on the throat.
Truly finding a rhythm on offence, Seymour added 26 third quarter points before upping that number to 27 in the final term to blow the margin to 43 by the final buzzer.
On a high after the Saturday night win, the Blasters travelled north to Myrtleford the next day and kept the good times rolling.
Firing on both ends of the floor, a 21-10 opening term set the platform, as the reigning champs were determined to make a statement.
And in the second quarter they played arguably their best hoops of the season, piling 35 points on the hapless Saints in what was a perfect display on both ends.
Leading by a whopping 33 at the main change it could have been easy for the Blasters to cruise through to the finish line.
But as we have seen all season, they just kept on trucking, maintaining their intensity at both ends to win the final two quarters convincingly and run away a whopping 53-point victors.
An even spread on the offensive end saw six Seymour players register double figures, with Best leading the way with 20.
Seymour will once again have a bye next weekend, meaning it will not return to the floor until Saturday, January 7.
The Seymour Lady Blasters made their much-anticipated return to the winners’ list with a 74-68 win on the road against Myrtleford Saints.
A tight battle from start to finish, a dominant first and last quarter ensured Seymour came away with the victory, after Myrtleford fought its way back into the contest through the middle portion of the match.
Once again Tayha Watkins was the star for the Blasters, dropping a match-high 26 points to continue her dominant 2022/23 campaign.
The result sees Seymour retain its spot in third on the ladder with a 5-2 record.
The Lady Blasters also have a bye next weekend, meaning they will return to the floor on Saturday, January 7 against Albury Cougars.
