Moama’s bid for the 2024 Murray Football League premiership has received a significant boost in the form of two Goulburn Valley League premiership players.

Tom Holman and Liam Barrett have been unveiled as off-season recruits for the Magpies, bolstering the squad at either end of the ground.

A four-time premiership player with Kyabram, Holman is set to bring versatility to the Pies’ outfit, standing at 193cm tall and able to play forward, back and through the midfield.

A supremely talented footballer, Holman appeared in Kyabram’s grand final loss this season to Echuca and will bring a wealth of experience, having also enjoyed a two-year stint with Werribee in the VFL.

Former Kyabram premiership teammate Liam Barrett will be moving to Moama alongside Holman, with the backman set to assume a playing assistant coach role in support of co-coaches Sam Sheldon and Jye Warren.

Possessing a glittering resume, Barrett claimed the 2014 Bendigo Pioneers’ best-and-fairest award before going on to be a member of two senior Kyabram flags alongside Holman, being named in the GVL team of the year in 2017.

Barrett joins the club having tasted premiership glory this season with Golden Square in the Bendigo Football League.

The two additions add to the Kyabram flavour at the club, with Sheldon having recruited several former teammates to his squad since taking over in pursuit of Moama’s first flag since the 2010 triumph.

A number of key players who took the Magpies to a preliminary final berth this season have also recommitted in recent times, with co-captain Jordan Ives putting pen to paper, along with Sean Dillon.
