When two undefeated teams go head-to-head, who comes out on top?
That is exactly what we will find out this weekend when the Murray Netball League’s top two sides Deniliquin and Tongala face off on Saturday.
The Rams and Blues are the two winningest teams in all of the local leagues. No sides – football or netball – have won more games this year than Deni and Tongala.
They are undefeated in 2023, boasting identical 8-0 win-loss records – an accomplishment only Mulwala’s senior football side can also lay claim to.
And now, 10 rounds into the season, the Rams and Blues will battle it out to see who will earn the title of premiership favourites.
With a game as big as this, it is simply impossible not to make it the subject of my bold prediction for the weekend.
It is the very definition of heavyweight bouts – the competition’s reigning premier against the side that looks to be the biggest threat to dethroning it.
So who comes out on top? I am tipping it will be Deniliquin.
The Rams have been the benchmark of the competition in recent years.
Having gone undefeated in 2022 on the way to winning the flag, the Rams boast a 28-game winning streak, with their last defeat coming more than 690 days ago.
It is a streak that I am predicting will continue with a win over Tongala on Saturday.
But what if I’m wrong? What happens if the Blues can put an end to the Rams’ scorching run?
Well, this game looms as a potential banana skin for my prediction, so if the Blues get up, it seems fitting that I wear a banana costume to work for a week.
And of course, I will wear it to a home Tongala netball game as well.
I don’t currently have a banana costume in my possession, but if the Blues come out victorious, I’ll be adding one to my wardrobe.
I’ve been wrong before, but this weekend I’m predicting I’ll get back on the winners’ list as the Rams claim their 29th win in a row.
