Bridge celebrate Christmas social

Bridge Club President Anna Castles presents Joyce Oberman with the Dee Matthews prize.

The Yarrawonga Bridge Club held its annual Christmas party at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club resort last week.

A social afternoon of bridge saw David Ware score the most points followed by Helen Hollingsworth.

Thursday night handicap winners Edith Mason, Gloria Roome and Jenny Tuttle.

The bridge session was followed by a wonderful Christmas dinner and much discussion of the childhood photo display of local players organized by Anna Castles.

Carol Henderson had the keenest eye and managed to match seven of the sixteen “children” with their adult selves.

Monday Section B winner Rod Carroll and runner up Anna Castles.

Anna awarded the handicap prizes to those who had scored the most points throughout the year.

David Ware won top spot in Monday’s Section A followed by Les Williams and Helen Hollingsworth.

Rod Carroll finished first in Section B ahead of Anna Castles. Terry and Jerry Browning tied for third position.

Monday Section A placings Les Williams 2nd, Helen Hollingsworth 3rd and David Ware 1st.

Thursday night’s winner was Gloria Roome, followed by Edith Mason and Jenny Tuttle.

The Dee Matthews prize was awarded to Joyce Oberman.

Dee was a foundation member of the club and frequently worked with newer players, helping them to understand and enjoy the game.

Each year the club stages three main events.

This year’s winners of the Harold Hollingsworth Handicap Competition were Les Williams and David Ware. They also took out the President’s Cup.

Well done to this steady partnership. The last of the three main trophies, the club championship, was won by Tom and Jan Hackett.

The club finished its sessions for the year with a two-table individual competition.

The winner, no prizes for guessing, was David Ware with 39 points. Equal second were Tom and Jan Hackett with 33.
