Oh brother, what a day.
Kyabram Cricket Club brothers and batsmen Cade and Kyle Mueller unleashed a memorable 230-run third-wicket partnership against Euroa on the opening day of Cricket Shepparton’s first two-day game of the season on Saturday.
Both were century-makers as Kyabram piled on a mammoth 407 runs for the loss of only four wickets in the game at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
Batting first drop, Cade made 111 off 167 deliveries with 12 boundaries, while Kyle compiled 158 off 141 balls with 18 boundaries and six sixes.
It is the biggest stand the talented brothers have produced together, although they have shared some match-winning partnerships in the past.
They massacred the Euroa attack after openers Paul Parsons and Bill McLay had put on 58 runs.
Parsons continued his good start to the season, making 64 with nine fours and a six, while McLay made 20.
After the Muellers fell, Kyle Fitzgerald with an unbeaten 25 off 16 balls and Charlie McLay with 18 not out built the Kyabram score to an imposing 4-407 to give their team’s bowlers a chance to push for a maximum points win this Saturday.
Cohen Paul’s 3-151 off 28 overs was the best of a very tired and frustrated lot of Euroa bowlers.
• In B-grade, Kyabram all-rounder Jason Parsons had a day out.
He blitzed Euroa’s batsmen with the ball, taking a mind-boggling 6-3 off eight overs, six of which were maidens, and then backed up with the bat to make 40.
With opening bowler Nic Chambers chipping in with 3-10 off 5.1 overs, Kyabram dismissed Euroa for 79.
Then Kyabram’s batsmen, led by Parsons, opener Troy Thomson (42) and Nic Chambers (31 not out), delivered the win.
• Kyabram’s E-grade side made a fist of chasing Waaia’s 4-211, but came up short despite a near-century knock by Paul Wickham.
Wickham blasted 96, including seven fours and six sixes, as Kyabram reached 7-170 in reply to Waaia’s 4-211.
