To say veteran Kyabram cricketer Ross Brown took out ‘the long handle’ against Northerners in their Cricket Shepparton E-grade clash on Saturday would be a gross understatement.
Batting at third-drop the 54-year-old opened his shoulders with a stunning innings of 198 not out from just 93 deliveries to steer Kyabram to an unlikely win in the game at Kyabram’s P-12 school oval.
Brown plundered 18 fours and 15 sixes - that’s 162 of his total - in the game and with Brenton Thorpe, who made an unbeaten 70 with eight fours and two sixes, steered Kyabram to a famous victory.
Kyabram was set a daunting total of 346 to win but with Brown leading the way with his power hitting the home side surged to a spectacular victory in 33.5 overs.
