Bruce beats his age

Bruce Bengough … his many achievements include beating his age.

By Robert Muir

Many senior golfers have recorded the rare round of golf with an 18-hole score off the stick lower than their age.

But Howlong golfer Bruce Bengough has achieved the rarish feat on 15 occasions.

The former low handicapper now off 15, Bruce has won several club championship titles at Brighton, Cheltenham, Tirhatuan Park and Howlong, and registered 14 holes-in-one, including three at Howlong.

Like those championship titles and holes-in-one, when someone scores lower than his or her age, it’s also a talking point.

The 79-year-old retired civil engineer is a four-time past captain of the Howlong Country Golf Club and loves the18-hole, Par 72 course.

“It’s lovely, flat – you don’t have to walk up and down hills (and) I’ve got a car now,” Bruce told The Free Press.
