Our Shepparton Gators have switched places in the Country Basketball League round two.

After the Lady Gators suffered a crushing defeat last week they bounced back in round two on Sunday with a 72-63 victory over Wallan Panthers as the away side.

They came out hot with an eight-point lead after the first before Wallan hit back in the second quarter, earning it a one-point lead at the break.

In the second half, Shepparton pulled out of reach with two comfortable quarters to take a nine-point win.

It was an all-around performance, with Tamica Tunumafono, Montanna Burke and Jordyn Commadeur in double digits.

Commadeur had a team-high 13, chipping in two three-pointers.

Janaya Pettie and Remi Nicholas had nine as well.

This week, it was the men who got blown away, following up their round one demolition of Wangaratta with a 40-point defeat to Wallan.

Also at Wallan on Sunday afternoon, they lost 55-96, struggling to recover from an abysmal first quarter where they conceded 29 and only scored four.

Big V guard Tom Frame chipped in with a game-high 18, and local legend David Woodcock rewound the clock with 13.

Shepparton struggled to keep up with Wallan’s perimeter shooting, only cashing three threes compared to Wallan’s 13.

Speaking of threes, another Big V Gators player had himself a big game, but not while representing Shepparton.

Gators vice-captain Sam Beks poured in eight threes for Benalla Breakers on his way to an astonishing 38 points.

Fellow champion Lachlan Kego ran up 20 points as well, following 26 last week.

Benalla destroyed Mansfield with an astonishing scoreline of 131-65.

The men and women have split their record with a win and a loss in their first two games on the road and will return to Shepparton this weekend for their first home games of the season.

The women will take on Seymour Blasters at Shepparton Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 21, at 6pm.

The men play on the same day at 8pm, also against Seymour.
