More than 90 players hit the fairways at the Mooroopna Golf Club in honour of a local legend.
Mooroopna Rotary Club held the second annual Stuart Davidson Memorial Charity Golf Day on Friday, April 22, to raise funds for local charities, with prizes and raffles drawn.
“The death of a local legend has created something that will carry on for years,” event organiser Kelvin Rogash said.
“It’s a day that represents two of Stuart’s great loves, golf and supporting local community.”
Among the competitors were three generations of Davidson’s family.
Davidson’s wife, Jeanette, his brother Geoff, his sister-in-law Gwenn, his son Adam and his granddaughter Quinn were all present.
Quite a few of the golfers in attendance were from interstate, such as Don Graham and his wife Judy, who made the trip from Queensland.
For decades Graham used to visit from Queensland once a year to play with Davidson and the other Shepparton golfers.
He’s made the trip once more to honour the time spent playing with Davidson.
Rogash said the Rotarians were hopeful the event would raise around $12,000 for the community from the raffle and the contributions of local sponsors.
The club had a bonus prize up for grabs: a new Hyundai from the delayed New Year’s Eve raffle.
The winner was announced by City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe at the ceremony after the golfers finished on the course.
First prize, the Hyundai Venue active, went to ticket number 12435, belonging to Marian Segrave.
Second prize was a $1000 Coles voucher and was won by Anne Hall.
