The McPherson Wines competition proved to be as popular as ever, with the Nagambie Golf Club members turning out in good numbers last week.
The weather could not have been better for the four-ball-best-ball, with some excellent scores posted and the usual suspects taking home the wine.
The McPherson Wines four-ball motivates some more than others, and that is certainly the case when it comes to our winning pair of Des Phelan and Greg Whiteman.
They managed 45 stableford points to win by two.
Whiteman has been in form for the past month, with this win capping off some great results.
Phelan's efforts, however, have come from the clouds with no recent form to mention.
The runners-up were two golfers who always make good in the big events.
A solid 43 points was put together by Hugh Lawrence and Mick O'Connell, with a major four-ball win on the cards for these two in the future.
Finishing top three were Jeremy Ezard and Ryan Ezard combining well for 42 points.
The nearest-the-pin prizes were hotly contested with multiple players going close on many holes.
John James, the big event specialist, found the green on the third, Whiteman was just greedy by winning more wine with a superb shot on to the eighth, Mark Boyer produced a cracker to get inside five others on the 13th and Phil Hageman took home the sponsor’s wares with a well-timed strike on the 16th.
As part of the day’s presentations, Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell was on hand to present the Nagambie Golf Club with a new Australian flag.
A club spokesperson said it was great to have Birrell at the club helping out with the day’s formalities.
Next week’s golf will be a par event with D. Brown on office duty and P. Neville in the bar.
