A thrilling finish determined the winner of the 2024 Finnigan four-ball tournament at Nagambie Golf Club this week.

Four teams held the equal lead with +6 after round one of the club’s most sought-after event.

After all was said and done, Chris Roberts and Peter Lawrence took out the biggest prizes of their golfing careers.

A round one total of +3 left Roberts and Lawrence languishing in the chasing pack, but a +5 opening nine and +5 closing nine was enough to snatch victory with the best second round total of +10 and a two-week Finnigan four-ball total of +13

Roberts put together a brilliant round, with Lawrence backing him up the entire way.

Runners-up were Graeme Cusack and Jim Doyle, coming up with a +8 for the day and a two-week total of +13.

Unlucky in third was father-and son-combination Jeremy and Ryan Ezard, also finishing on +13 for the two-week event but falling to third with +7 on the day.

Nearest-the-pin prizes were awarded to Graeme Galvin for a strong iron on the long par-3 eighth, John James for precision on the short par-3 13th and David Love for a solid strike on the tricky 16th.

The club thanked the two sponsors of the Finnigan four-ball, Barry Cryer and Dean Brown, for making the special event a little more special.

“Änd credit goes to our volunteer ground staff for great course preparation and making the course play fair for all,” a club spokesperson said.

Next week’s golf will be a stroke monthly medal. On office duty will be G. Whiteman and in the bar W. LeCerf.
