Cobram enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Tocumwal in the latest round of Murray Valley Cricket Association action.
The Tigers mauled the Bloods at Tocumwal Recreation Reserve and chased down the Bloods’ target with seven wickets in hand.
Cobram star talent Shaun Downie made 50 not out at the top of the order in the Tigers’ comfortable run-chase.
The Tigers got off to a cracking start out in the field thanks to Hunter Verhoeven (3-16) and Chase Hardwidge (3-9), who combined for six wickets between them.
Jack Beasley and Shaun Downie claimed two wickets and one wicket, respectively.
Meanwhile, Tom Oliver (29 runs) made the most runs for the Bloods, while Liam Sutton, Andrew Lean and Tom White were the individual wicket-takers for Tocumwal.
It was a good weekend for Nathalia, who came out victorious on its home turf against Katamatite.
The Katty Tigers elected to bat first and reached 7-149 from their 45 overs.
Nathalia cruised in its run-chase and reached 150 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Nathalia’s Scotty Morris was the home team’s star batter, making 59 not out, while Ewan Congues made a respectable 53 runs not out.
Nathalia’s Henry Congues claimed four wickets, making him Nathalia’s best bowler of the match. Brenton Campbell and Scotty Morris took two and one wickets respectively.
The Katty Tigers’ best batter was middle-order talent and captain Brayden Beaton, who made an unbeaten 35.
Top-order batter Tyler Green made 32 runs.
Katamatite’s Tom Irvine (1-25) and Mark Haberfield (1-21) were the only successful bowlers for their team.
Over in NSW, Berrigan had no such luck on their home turf against Barooga.
The Saints won the toss and elected to bowl first but the tactic backfired when Barooga piled on 163 runs from 43.1 overs.
Barooga Cricket Club top-order batter Benjamin Beaumont made the most runs for his side at 35, followed by Kale Watkins who made 23 runs.
Barooga’s Will Sharp had a field day and collected impressive figures of 6-9.
Sharp’s fiery spell of bowling came off nine overs and consisted of nine maidens.
Saints top-order batter Jacob Bartlett made his team’s most runs with 33, followed by tail-end batter Nick Manley with 25 runs.
In other cricket news, the Deniliquin Rhinos defeated Finley by seven wickets.
The Rhinos made light work of Finley’s 160-run total and reached the target in the 28th over.
Round four will see Cobram take on Katamatite, Finley attempt to beat Berrigan, Nathalia try and come out victorious on their home turf against Deniliquin and Barooga play fellow NSW outfit Tocumwal.
In Goulburn Murray Cricket, Katamatite’s women’s outfit defeated Nathalia by nine wickets.
Katrina Chapman was the standout with 31 not out.
