A six-goal third quarter helped lift Cobram to a 14-point victory over Barooga on Saturday.
The Hawks entered the clash with only one win for the season to their name, but playing in front of a vocal home crowd they hit the ground running to lead by five points at the first break.
The Tigers struggled to break down the home side’s defence and trailed at the main break, 4.5.29 to 6.4.40.
An upset was brewing in the cross-border clash, but Cobram shook off its first-half malaise with a six-goal third term to take a 15-point lead into the final stanza.
Barooga kept pushing but Cobram kept the Hawks at arm’s length, eventually triumphing 13.9.87 to 11.7.73.
The win leaves Cobram fifth on the Murray league ladder after nine rounds, while Barooga sits 10th.
Cobram travels to Moama this weekend to take on the fourth-placed Magpies, while Barooga will hit the road to tackle Mulwala, which sits third on the ladder.
