It seems just about every Cobram senior football supporter will be cheering on Tocumwal this weekend in the final round of the Murray Football Netball League.

The Tigers must win this weekend and rely on Tocumwal knocking off sixth-placed Finley to feature in the upcoming finals series.

Cobram is placed seventh on the ladder and faces a trip to Echuca South to take on Echuca United in round 20 action.

The Tigers relied on Nathalia to defeat to Finley at the weekend, but the Purples were unable to get the job done and suffered an 11-point defeat.

Now, it falls on 12th-ranked Tocumwal to pull off a miracle and defeat Finley to give Cobram a chance of featuring in finals.

No matter the outcome on Saturday, it‘s going to be a bittersweet afternoon with Cobram coach John Brunskill walking into his final game in charge of the Tigers.

Brunskill has been in the top role following the end of 2019 campaign and led the club to last year’s grand final.

The club stalwart spoke following the memorable round 18 win over Moama last week and said the future was an exciting one of the Tigers following the number of debutants in 2023.

“We’re a young team and we’ve blooded another seven or eight teenagers this year,” Brunskill said of the direction Cobram is heading.

“That’s really pleasing for the club and it’s a matter of holding on to those boys now. They are the future of the club.”

Over on the netball courts, Cobram gets a chance to record its sixth win of the campaign with a trip to face sixth-placed United.

The Tigers’ A-grade outfit have enjoyed a positive season on the court under coach Fran Redman.

Meanwhile, Cobram’s under-17s football outfit is out to complete an unbeaten home-and-away season.

The Tigers’ opposition must win this weekend to play finals, while the under-14s are set to feature in finals and enter the final round in third spot on the ladder.
