One of Cobram’s homegrown athletic stars is heading to Melbourne next month to compete in the state finals in Melbourne.

Cobram Primary School Year 5 student Ruby Burns booked herself a place at the State Track and Field Primary Boys/Mixed Girls Championships in Melbourne, to be held on Wednesday, November 6.

At the regional championships in Albury last week, Burns competed in no fewer than three events at the regional competition.

She came home with 3rd in the 400m relay, 3rd in the 100m sprint, and 1st place in the 200m sprint.

Next month, she is set to face students in her age category from across Victoria in the 200m sprint.

Athletic talent runs - or sprints - in the Burns family, with both Ruby’s parents competing in Little Athletics from an early age.

But as any athlete knows, talent only takes one so far - hard work and determination makes up the large part that remains.

Burns is considering following in her parents’ footsteps and joining Barooga Little Athletics upon her return from the state finals.
