Cobram racing driver Ben Hamilton returned to the Phillip Island racetrack on August 6, with round four of the Victorian Pulsar Series being held.
Returning to the scene of round one of the competition, the speedster had a solid three days on the track, finishing fourth in race one, sixth in race two and three and fifth in race four.
Not only was the event significant for Hamilton on the tarmac, but it marked the first time he was back racing at Phillip Island since crashing at the circuit in March.
Hamilton said it was an interesting feeling to return to the scene of the accident.
“I won’t lie, it was a bit daunting the first time going through turn one because that’s where I had the smash,” Hamilton said.
“The weekend itself went alright, I finished every race and the car ran really nice.
“The Vurgel Autosport crew did a really good job of tuning the car to the way I needed it to be, I came away with a few good results and ultimately a car that wasn’t in pieces.”
Hamilton said the car was two-and-a-half seconds quicker than his old one, however he was still getting used to driving the vehicle.
“It was built so much more rigid than the old car so I’m still adjusting my driving style to suit it,” he said.
“That’s probably the only thing that’s holding us back at the moment.”
After a season that has had plenty of ups and downs, just one round remains of the 2022 Victorian Pulsar Series.
Hamilton will make the short trip to the Winton Raceway on September 17 and 18, with round five sure to bring plenty more action for the Cobram racer.
