If you’ve ever had a desire to try your hand at the nation’s home-grown sport, the perfect opportunity is just around the corner.

The Barooga Football Netball Club will be hosting a come and try AFL day for women across the region on Saturday, November 23.

The free event will be led by senior women’s coach Toby Parish and under-17s coach Kate Chapman.

Parish said the event was about getting girls interested in playing women’s football.

“Come down and see what it’s like, but don’t feel like you need to sign up,” Parish said.

Anyone aged 10 years and older from across the district’s football and netball clubs is welcome to join.

Attendees will be walked through the fundamentals of footy - from how to hand-pass, mark, and kick a ball.

After a few games and drills, the club will put on a barbecue of sausages in bread.

Parish said there is no obligation to commit to signing up for the footy season.

Those who are interested in joining the event will need to bring along running shoes, a drink bottle, a hat and a can-do attitude.

The free event begins at 9.45am on Saturday, November 23.
