Comprehensive results in Allan Matheson Shield round three bowls

The two most prominent sides in the Goulburn Valley Playing Area Allan Matheson Shield remain front-runners after three weeks of pennant action.

Shepparton Golf and Tallygaroopna have maintained perfect starts to the weekend competition after round three on the lawns had four comfortable victories.

Friday night bowls kicked the weekend off at Euroa, where Tallygaroopna put up a buffer against the winless home side with a pair of lopsided results contributing to a 14-94 to 4-83 win.

Euroa rallied to take the contest the full distance by rattling off two rinks.

Tallygaroopna’s Mitch Sidebottom-skipped quartet emphatically snuffed out any hope of an upset with a 33-22 triumph in its hit-out.

Meanwhile, Shepparton Golf kept the pace at the summit of the table with a 16-96 to 2-78 result against East Shepparton.

Golf gave up only one of the four rinks ― by a single shot ― to the East Shepparton quartet skipped by coach Daniel Nichols.

Indeed, three of the four contests were quite close, with three or fewer shots the margin to keep questions about aggregate shots unanswered.

However, the Brett Gunning-skipped side put up a trouncing in its rink to deliver some breathing room on the scoreboard.

Two other sides scooped their second wins of season, each registering triple-figure shot tallies and one sweeping the points.

The round’s largest shots differential was recorded at Shepparton Park, where the home side flexed its muscle against Tatura-Hill Top by cruising to victory 16-102 to 2-77.

Park dropped one rink narrowly, but Jeff Boyle, Shane Walsh and Paul Nichols ― the latter fresh off last weekend’s success in the GVPA Mixed Pairs competition ― skipped their sides to commanding victories.

“It was a very good win and a win we deserved to have,” Shepparton Park’s Paul Becroft said.

“We’ve had a few negative comments about our club and we wanted to prove people wrong.

“When we get together, we talk about these things. We’re a proud club and we want to prove ourselves.

“It gives us that little fire in the belly to perform.”

Finally, Kyabram took everything available in its 18-100 to 0-83 sweep of Mooroopna, never playing the Cats off the greens altogether, but handling the task industriously.

This weekend, a Shepparton derby awaits with Park and East Shepparton set to lock horns.

Tatura-Hill Top and Euroa will seek to rebound from defeat when they meet, while Tallygaroopna will face Mooroopna and Kyabram will host Shepparton Golf.
