Congupna playing co-coach Ben Bingham has called on his squad to “stick together” following the aftermath of Saturday’s deflating grand final loss.
The Road couldn’t match it with Mulwala and despite flashes of their best early in the contest, could not sustain it over four quarters.
With the lure of ending a 30-year premiership drought in front of it, Congupna’s impressive squad could not walk off Moama’s Jack Eddy Oval with silverware.
“It’s tough to take,” Bingham said.
“We came in thinking we were in a good position to have a really good go at it, but things sort of didn’t go our way in the end. Full credit to Mulwala they were just too strong for us at the end of the day.
“They were strong around the contest and got their game going from there.
“Our main message is just to stick together.
“It’s been a hell of a ride to get to where we are right now, so it’s not the time to jump off and it’s time to jump on.
“It takes squads to win these things and we’ll celebrate with the twos for their efforts today.”
Bingham praised the support the club had received for, not over the past fortnight, but the entire season.
“(The crowd) was unreal; I’ve never seen that much support for us anywhere,” he said.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done for them ... I reckon we’ve got one of the most loyal supporter bases going around and I want to thank them for their support.”
