Cricket season is upon us

The Murray Valley Cricket Association season will get underway next weekend, with Southern Riverina teams featuring in two grades.

Tocumwal, Berrigan, Finley and Barooga have fielded teams in the A and C-grade competitions.

Round one of the A-grade competition will be held next Saturday, October 14, starting with one day matches.

There will be two local derbies in the opening round, with Berrigan to take on Tocumwal and Barooga to meet the Finley Cats on the pitch.

The round one draw is as follows:

• Cobram Tigers vs Barmah Hotel - 12.30pm at Cobram Showgrounds.

• Katty Tigers vs Deni Rhinos - 12.30pm at Katamatite Recreation Reserve.

• Berrigan Saints vs Tocumwal Bloods - 12.30pm at Berrigan Sportground.

• Barooga vs Finley Cats - 12.30pm at Barooga Recreation Reserve.

The C-grade draw gets started a week later, on Saturday, October 21, with some games spilling over to Sunday, October 22.

Tocumwal will field two teams in this grade, with Tocumwal Bloods White having the buye in round one, and Tocumwal Bloods Red fronting for a local derby with Barooga.

The C-grade season also starts with one day matches.

The draw is as follows:

Berrigan Saints vs Deni Rhinos - October 21, 1pm at Berrigan Sportground.

Swans vs Katty Tigers - October 21, 1pm at Katunga Recreation Reserve.

Frostick Contracting vs Bulldogs - October 21, 1pm at Nathalia Showgrounds.

Barooga vs Toc Bloods Red - October 21, 1pm at Barooga Recreation Reserve.

Cobram Tigers vs Finley Cats - October 22, 1pm at Cobram Showgrounds.

Local clubs will also field junior teams this year, with training already underway.
