It’s getting to be trophy time across the grades of Cricket Shepparton in season 2023-24.
Following last week’s rescheduled T20 finals in higher and lower-grade seniors, it’s now the juniors’ turn to share in some silverware.
On Wednesday night Murchison claimed the Under-14B title relatively comfortably, scampering home by five wickets over Numurkah at St Joseph’s Primary School.
The visitor had it all its way in removing Numurkah for 76, with Jacob Miller’s figures of 3-11 leading the line.
An undisputed recipient of best-on-ground recognition, Miller went on to open the batting, mashing back-to-back sixes in a 38-run opening stand with Caleb Turvey that set the table for victory.
Club president Dylan Baker paid tribute to all involved, highlighting the work of coaches Ray Young and Cam Grogan in particular.
‘’As a club, we’re very proud of the boys who participated in the grand final and every other player that participated during the year,’’ Baker said.
‘’The dedication of the coaches, Ray and Cam, was invaluable to the club and what they have achieved is a testament to that.
“We’ve been trying to instil in the players that hard work will get you out of trouble and we could see that shine through at Numurkah.
“Jacob is one of our standout young cricketers and his talents have also been noticed at senior level; he opened the bowling in C-grade and got man of the match there.
“He’s going to be an outstanding cricketer.”
Meanwhile, the Under-14A title is up for grabs this Wednesday after Central Park-St Brendan’s made an impressive start to its two-day decider with Northerners.
Gus Byrne (82) and Nate Yze (58*) produced high-powered knocks to set Northerners an imposing victory target of 212.
