A handful of talented young cricketers have been selected to represent the district next month.
Cobram’s Lenny Power, 15, alongside Murphy Stevens and Kohen Haddrell of Barooga, will travel to Deniliquin in early November to represent the Southern Riverina Cricket Council at the U16s Colston Scammell Shield.
It will be Power’s first time competing in the Shield for the Southern Riverina Cricket Council.
He said he felt a buzz when he discovered his name on the SRCC team list.
“It was a good surprise,” he said.
He also played on the Cricket Albury Wodonga Murray representative side last year, which went on to take home the under-14 side’s first-ever flag at the NSW Championships.
Power said he was looking forward to getting to know the other players on the SRCC side and playing in the slips or in the cover.
“I like to be really involved in the field, and get up and about with my team-mates,” he said.
He will be joining mates Kohen Haddrell and Murphy Stephens of Barooga at the Shield in Deniliquin.
Power’s father, Will Power, said it was a proud moment for him.
“It’s been a long journey over the last four or five years, a lot of net sessions, a lot of throw downs,” Will said.
“It’s very fulfilling, and [I’m] obviously very proud.”
Tocumwal’s Liam Sutton, Zander Quinn and Gus Frostick of Nathalia will also travel to Deniliquin next month to represent the SRCC side.
