It was a successful weekend of action for the region’s four Central Victorian League clubs, with all the senior sides in action picking up wins.

In the League One men’s competition, Tatura continued to put pressure on first-placed Shepparton South, picking up a solid 4-1 win over Eaglehawk.

The game, at Tatura’s Howley Oval, was the Ibises to lose from the start, with a second minute Thomas Leech goal opening the scoring.

Just 21 minutes later, Cody Sellwood doubled the home side’s lead, with Tatura ending the first half with a two-goal buffer.

Much like the first, Tatura scored twice in the second, with Zachary Ferlauto and Tristan Zito on the score sheet and helping the side run out a 4-1 winner.

Tatura coach Tristan Zito said it was the first time the Ibises had beaten Eaglehawk.

“It was obviously great to get a goal two minutes in, we then dropped off before we got back into it and controlled it,” Zito said.

Zito said Cooper Gosstray had a good game in the midfield, with the win vital to keeping the second-placed side in touch with ladder-leading South.

South picked up another big win on Sunday, defeating Epsom 9-0.

It was raining goals at McEwen Reserve, with Joel Aitken opening the scoring in the fourth minute.

Aitken was joined on the score sheet by Jamie De Smit (three), Will Keenan (two), Glenn Murison and Nicholas Mori, with South in control from start to finish.

Like South, Shepparton United produced a big win on Sunday, defeating Golden City 8-1 in Bendigo.

United, which suffered a close loss the previous week, was back to its best, giving City little chance to win.

Roven Shaholli was United’s highest scorer on the day with four, while Benjamin Degraft-Hayford scored two and coach Lewis Coyle struck one.

The result has South remaining undefeated on top of the ladder, Tatura in second and United climbs back to fourth.

In the League Two men’s competition, Shepparton Jaguars defeated Deniliquin Wanderers 3-2 away from home.

Goals to David Kanyengele, Dinovic Kasongo and Baraka Museme got the side over the line, with the result keeping the team in second place.

  • In the League One women’s competition, Shepparton United produced another solid win, defeating Spring Gully United on Saturday afternoon at Epsom.

The solid victory came about after goals from Tara Ambrosini and Alana Murray, with coach Lucy Ciancio saying it was an awesome win.

“It was definitely a well-deserved win, the girls were extremely happy,” Ciancio said.

“We played our best, fought hard and didn’t give up and so did Spring Gully, we just came out on top.”

Ciancio said it was hard to pinpoint any individual performers, with the whole team playing well.

“The only thing we can do is keep training hard, focus on making improvements each week so that each individual can improve and become better and stronger each game and I believe we can do it,” she said.

The win moves United to 13 points on the table in fourth position, with goal difference all that separates first and fourth.

In the League Two competition, Tatura’s women’s team had a bye.
