As the Central Victorian League season moves closer to a conclusion every point is vital for the Goulburn Valley sides.
In the League One Men’s competition all three teams face tricky tasks, with two away trips and one home game on the cards.
For Tatura, the weekend brings the challenge of an away trip to Strathfieldsaye Colts United, who despite sitting last on the ladder, is likely to be difficult to beat at home.
Tatura coach Tristan Zito said United’s pitch could be muddy at times, giving the home side an advantage.
“Obviously last time we played them it was a blowout, but we are expecting a tighter game this time around,” Zito said.
“We’ve got this game, then a bye and then South and United, so we’re really trying to build up.”
Zito explained the Ibises should be “pretty much at full strength” for Sunday afternoon’s game, which is a must-win if the side is to continue to pressure the ladder-leading Shepparton South.
“We can’t afford to drop any points, we need to keep winning our games and then hopefully take three points against them,” he said.
Shepparton South will welcome Spring Gully to McEwen Reserve on Sunday afternoon in another important game.
Rob Harmeston’s side will need to be at its best again, with the dominant South yet to drop points this season.
Meanwhile Shepparton United will face a Saturday evening away trip to take on Strathdale.
The 5pm Saturday game will see Strathdale looking to draw closer to the top four and United aiming to hold on to its top-three spot.
In the League Two Men’s competition, the Shepparton Jaguars will play host to the Deniliquin Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
The game at Shepparton’s Vibert Reserve is a must-win for the Jaguars, with the Wanderers hot on their heels in third spot.
- In the League One Women’s competition Shepparton United will be hoping it can return to its winning ways when it hosts Eaglehawk at McEwen Reserve.
United, in fourth, needs a win to remain in touch with the top three sides and will be favourites going into this contest.
Meanwhile in the League Two Women’s competition Tatura will travel to Moama to take on the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders.
The Ibises will need to be at their best to secure the win in the first-against-second clash.
It has been an impressive season so far for Tatura and a win on Sunday will go some way to helping them secure top spot come season’s end.
