Seymour product and Fremantle legend David Mundy is set to pull on the boots this winter and he hopes it could be somewhere close to where it all began.
Mundy, who retired at the end of the 2022 AFL season, has nominated for the 2023 ‘Carlton Draft’ — an initiative that sees former stars play a one-off game for a country club.
The former 376-game Docker, who holds the club’s games record, is the sixth and final AFL talent to nominate for the second edition of the Carlton and United Breweries promotion.
Clubs across Victoria have had the chance to enter the competition, with successful clubs to be announced early next month.
Kyabram District League outfit Longwood was the only club based in the Goulburn Valley region to be involved in last year’s inaugural Carlton Draft.
Former Geelong premiership hero Cameron Mooney laced up the boots for the Redlegs.
The Carlton Draft will be broadcast live on Fox Footy in late April, with match days to begin from May 1.
Mundy, a 2015 All-Australian, said he hoped a club near Seymour would pick him up in this year’s Carlton Draft.
“I am fresh out of the game, I have plenty in the tank and I am feeling confident that I will be able to run out the four quarters in the guts and put on a show for the local community,” Mundy said.
“Having grown up in country Victoria, it would be fitting if a club from in or around the Seymour region drafted me.
“I grew up at the footy club, so I understand what local footy means to so many in the community. Irrespective of it all, I am just excited to put my hand up and provide them a day they won’t forget ... but my focus will be providing my knowledge and experience to help win a game of footy and enjoy a cold Carlton Draught with the locals afterwards.”
