Deliberations have begun on the future of the Picola and District Football Netball League.

The league board met with clubs on Sunday to assess their positions on potentially splitting the league into two divisions once again, as it was from 2009 to 2017.

PDFNL manager of operations Shane Railton said there were a variety of perspectives presented by the clubs on the potential split.

“There was a lot of different views about it,” he said.

“Some clubs held consistent views in regards to current rivalries they hold which would be obviously continued if the competition stayed whole.

“Others on the other side were arguing that greater competition brings greater gate takings and greater interest.

“(With) something like this, there’s always going to be a range of things, and the purpose of the meeting was to get to hear the club’s views on those things, and the boards obviously then got to make a decision.”

That decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
