Deniliquin has clinched an enthralling one-shot win over Stanhope during round seven of the Campaspe Playing Area weekend pennant competition, keeping the pressure on league-leaders Moama.
In a thrilling contest, Deniliquin skip Simon Chisholm led Robert Morris (lead), Dallas Kitchin (second) and Brian Kemnitz (third) to a 21-16 victory in their rink, which would prove to be the side’s only win of the day.
Stanhope earned a four-shot win courtesy of skip Robert Ponton and his side, triumphing 30-26, however the final rink ended in a draw, ensuring Deniliquin claimed the overall win 13-66 to 3-65.
Moama managed to stay on top of the ladder, ahead of Deniliquin, following a 15-63 to 1-50 win over Mathoura.
The Steamers earned wins in the Graham O’Brien and Geoffrey Beattie-skipped rinks, which were won 24-14 and 20-17 respectively.
Mathoura came away from the contest with a single point after forcing a 19-19 draw in skip Jason McCloy’s rink.
Tongala claimed a strong 15-64 to 1-51 win in its match against Rochester at the weekend.
The reigning premier set the win up on the back of the league’s best-performing skip so far this season, Barry Tinning, with his quartet claiming a 24-13 win.
Matthew Liverton led Tonny to a 24-22 win against the Graham Willis-led Rochester side, while Rochester skip John Weeks and his Tongala counterpart Bradley Tinning couldn’t be split in their rink, playing out a 16-16 draw.
Echuca earned a solid win against Rich River, claiming the contest 14-65 to 2-48.
Rich River’s sole success came in the rink skipped by Steve Pavone, who earned a narrow one-shot win over Echuca skip James Ferrier, 18-17.
Steve Cunnington put Echuca on the board, skipping his side to a 21-15 win over Keith Hewett’s Rich River foursome, while skip Stan Barker earned a 27-15 win for Echuca in the remaining rink.
Division two
Deni RSL claimed the win over Rochester, prevailing 14-75 to 2-59, while Echuca were emphatic in victory against Deniliquin, triumphing 16-81 to 0-32.
Moama earned a solid 14-66 to 2-55 win against Mathoura, and Tongala narrowly accounted for Rich River 14-63 to 2-61.
Division three
Mathoura swept all three rinks en route to a 16-67 to 0-57 win over Lockington, as did Moama in its 16-79 to 0-60 victory against Rochester.
Deni RSL earned bragging rights over Deniliquin, taking the contest 16-72 to 0-43, while Elmore accounted for Stanhope 14-55 to 2-49 and Rich River beat Echuca 14-67 to 2-48.
Division four
Deniliquin RSL were big winners against Tongala, earning a 16-78 to 0-46 victory, with Echuca also claiming every rink in its 16-76 to 0-38 win over Moama.
Ky Valley View narrowly took the contest against Lockington 14-64 to 2-57, while Stanhope beat Rich River 14-55 to 2-48.
Division five
Moama Black earned a comfortable 14-56 to 0-25 win over Echuca White, as did Elmore over Rochester, winning 14-45 to 0-25.
Echuca was victorious against Lockington, triumphing 14-55 to 0-29. Scores for the match between Tongala and Moama Green were not supplied.
