Deniliquin Rovers’ youngest cohort whiz their way to Picola District Netball League 13-and-under premiership over Tocumwal
Deniliquin Rovers’ quest for 13-and-under Picola District Netball League glory manifested against Tocumwal on Saturday morning.
The Rovers stormed to a 16-goal triumph in a thrilling grand final, capping off a triumphant season that bore not a single loss in six months.
Deniliquin’s young crop, who played with a magnetic energy under the azure sky, seized the title with a decisive 29-13 victory.
The Rovers were full of bluster, cascading goals on Tocumwal’s defensive ring to sail out to 10-1 at quarter time.
Deniliquin’s onslaught did not dwindle throughout the second term, restricting the Bloods’ flow while piling on more goals without fail.
With the half time ledger reading 16-3, from the outside, it looked like a bloodbath.
Yet every Tocumwal goal was applauded like a thunder clap, and as the Blood reds walked into the final break 22-7 down, by the crowd noise alone an upset would not have been the strangest thing to occur on the day.
However, Deniliquin stood taller across the board and with the added height of a rangy defensive combo, the Rovers ran home comfortably to put the blue and whites on the winners’ list.
Rovers’ rocket Nina Glowrey was bestowed best on court, capping a storybook morning for the club.
