New ball bowler Jack Donnell dismantled the Tongala batting line-up on Saturday to give Fire Brigade its second successive win in Goulburn Murray Cricket’s John McMahon Shield competition.

Donnell produced a lethal burst of 5/24 off nine overs as only two batsmen, opener Rory Knight (27) and number seven Ryan Smith (26) reached double figures for Tongala which struggled to get 100 runs on the board.

Donnell was well supported by Kaine Herbert and the wily Brenton Sheppard, both with two wickets.

Young openers Bohden Learmonth (20) and Miller Griffiths then gave Brigade a good start in their run chase with a stand of 39 before Herbert assured a five-wicket win in just 15 overs with an unbeaten 42 off 32 deliveries, which included seven fours.

Jessie Johnstone with 2/14 was the only multiple wicket-taker for the young Tongala side.

* Cooma’s batsmen posted a handy 7/220 which was enough to secure the premiership points against Leitchville Gunbower and give it its second win for the season.

Plenty contributed to the Cooma run tally with English imports Matthew Darvill and Hugo Bell showing the way.

Darvill scored 52 with five fours off 57 deliveries.

Bell made 33 and along with opener Brad Power (34), Cooper Fawcett (37) and Ethan Palma Ludeman (27 not out) swelled the Cooma score well past 200.

In reply, Leitchville-Gunbower openers Tyler Jones and Austin Windridge were on song with a 101-run stand with Jones slamming seven fours and two sixes off 55 deliveries.

Led by Liam Scopelitti, the Cooma attack was able to restrict LG to just 72 more runs while claiming the 10 wickets to secure the win.

Scopelitti took 4/16 off nine overs and was well supported by Hugo Bell, Cooper Fawcett and Ethan Palma Ludeman, each with two wickets.

* In-form opener Sean Williams top-scored with 47, while Adam Ward (34), Angus Martin (32) and Jesse Cuttriss (25 not out) chipped in as Rochester scored a competitive 205 against Echuca South.

But South proved more than up to the challenge, losing just two wickets in securing the win with Asantha Singappuli and Rathika Rajakumara combining for a match-winning 148 run stand.

Singappuli made a dashing unbeaten 94 off 92 deliveries with 14 boundaries and one six while Rajakumara contributed an unbeaten 56.

* Moama opener Fraser Buchanan clubbed 75 with 10 boundaries to help the Magpies reach 7/205 against BLU.

At one stage 1/96 in reply, BLU lost 9/48 to succumb for 144 with Anthony McMahon and Rhys Drennan both picking up three wickets.

Captain Regis Chakabva with a fighting 68 and Declan Pearse with 32 were the only BLU batsmen to reach double figures.

* Echuca’s batsmen piled on 7/261 against Nondies-Cohuna.

Charlie Hinks with an unbeaten 74 with 11 fours and one six, proved the most productive of the home side’s eight batsmen who got into double figures.

Nondies never looked like challenging Echuca’s score, dipping to 4/34 at one stage and making only 103 with Hinks completing a good match by taking 3/21.
