Lockington-Bamawm United is creeping closer to a first win of the season, taking a narrow loss to Echuca 2 in the latest Campaspe Tennis Association action.
In-form 2 has been the best of the Echuca sides this season but LBU took it to them in round five, starting with wins in both singles fixtures at the Echuca Lawn Tennis Club.
Harrison Condliffe and Grant Humbert gave LBU the advantage with 6-2 and 6-4 wins respectively, and the pair continued the momentum in the men’s doubles, each featuring in another win, putting the visitor up four sets to none early.
Shaun Trice and Chris Milnes got Echuca on the board, but LBU continued to hold the advantage after the women’s doubles, the side’s splitting them 2-2.
Echuca 2 staged its recovery in the mixed doubles, taking all four by a combined 32 games to 13 to break LBU hearts and hold firm in second place on the CTA table.
Chris Potter and Madeline O’Nial had the biggest win of the block, taking their set 8-2.
In the end, Echuca took the match overall, 7-81 to 6-64.
Rochester vs Echuca 3
It was business as usual at the Rochester Lawn Tennis Club, the home side extending its unbeaten streak to five over Echuca 3.
The match started in the balance as Echuca’s Ryan More and Rochester’s Tobie Woodfine earned identical 6-2 wins for their sides in the singles rubbers.
Rochester edged ahead by a set as it took two of the three men’s doubles matches, Hudson Jasper and Josh Boyd snatching the only win for Echuca.
The host solidified its advantage in the women’s doubles, taking a 3-1 edge in the grouping to score a healthy lead.
Karen Taylor and Rachael Major were the most impressive pairing, dominating 8-0 in their set.
The fixture closed out with the sides sharing the mixed doubles honours, taking two sets each.
The final score saw Rochester prevail 8-90 to 5-63.
Next week Echuca 1 will host Rochester, Echuca 2 and 3 will face off, and LBU has the bye.
