Echuca celebrated star Steph Vick’s 250th game in style with a big win over Rochester in round 17.
The Murray Bombers jumped out of the blocks with a 22-goal first quarter and didn’t look back, running away with a 38-goal win in the penultimate round of the home-and-away season.
It was a fitting result for the two-time Wellman Medallist and four-time premiership player, who has crafted a successful career playing for both Kyabram and Echuca.
Echuca coach Belinda Lees described Vick as a “role model” and said it was pleasing to notch a win for the occasion.
“It was a special day for Steph’s 250th,” Lees said.
“Lauren Jones was away so Steph played defence, back to where it all started for her.
“It was nice to have a good win to celebrate Steph. She’s such an integral part of our team and the club, and an incredible role model to all.”
Vick starred alongside Ash Mangan and Lily Devlin, with Lees singling out Devlin’s influence in wing attack as a key in victory.
“Lily Devlin played a beautiful game. She made it quite easy for us in the goal circle,” Lees said.
Teal Hocking, Ella Roulston and Eloise Cuttriss battled hard for Rochester as the result confirmed the Tigerettes will finish seventh in 2023. They will play Shepparton United in their final game this week.
The GVL A-grade finalists have now been confirmed, with Euroa, Mooroopna, Seymour, Tatura and Shepparton Bears set to join Echuca in the race for the flag.
Echuca will face the Cats in round 18.
The Murray Bombers also made it two from two in the milestone stakes with the club’s B-grade side claiming a 27-goal win in Georgie Eishold’s 100th game.
