Echuca’s talisman was every bit as clinical as you’d expect on Sunday from a goaler of her calibre, bringing the house down at Deakin Reserve during a 35-31 Goulburn Valley League grand final triumph over Euroa.
She dispatched nine goals in the final term, single-handedly putting an upbeat Euroa to bed to claim the most-valuable-player award, the second she’s raked in after taking out the honour in the 2018 premiership.
But if you asked her, she only applied the finishing strokes on a priceless Echuca masterpiece.
“The girls did all the work,” she said.
“The turnovers, everything, they do the work, they get it down here and we just have to finish it off.
“So once we had a little bit of momentum, they just kept coming, they worked so hard up the court ― it was so good.”
Townrow began as she meant to finish, drawing vocals from the Echuca crowd almost instantly.
She latched on to an Ash Mangan dime and executed with aplomb, setting the tone for the shooting masterclass which was to follow.
From then on the Townrow and Belinda Lees show was screening without any breaks, the former thanking her goaling partner for leading the side to its first flag in five years.
“She (Lees) has got so much knowledge and wisdom,” Townrow said.
“We’ve been working really hard to get it right this season and I think it came together there in that game. So, perfect timing.”
Townrow shot 22 of Echuca’s 35 goals and was the ending point to many of the Murray Bombers’ fleeting moves.
However, bar any individual merit, the veteran attacker was sure to give thanks to the club she’s served so well.
“Echuca is just such a special club and to be a part of it is an absolute privilege. Let alone win a senior A-grade flag ... I couldn’t be happier,” she said.
“(It feels) different to the first, but not better or worse.
“The first one is super special because it’s the first, but the second one you know how much they mean to you.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling, everyone should be chasing it.”
