Goulburn Valley Hockey Association continued with the senior competitions this week but two different tales were told by the women’s and men’s side.

The women’s league entered round six with the undefeated Echuca Moama taking on Benalla.

Echuca Moama had made a habit of close fixtures in the early rounds, with three of its four wins coming by two goals or less.

It flipped the script this time around though, obliterating Benalla 8-0 to maintain a perfect record.

Courtney Thompson did most on the damage for Echuca Moama with four goals, while Agostina Traglia and Tiana Thorpe contributed two each.

It was a far cry from the two sides meeting in round one when Echuca Moama scraped through a 1-0 winner.

Echuca Moama (5-0) will face Shepparton Youth Club on June 16 after a league bye this weekend.

After a month-long hiatus, the men’s competition resumed on May 24 and continued at the weekend, with Echuca Moama’s men’s team experiencing a tough two-week period.

After defeating Mooroopna 3-1 in the opening round, it faced off with Shepparton Youth Club on May 24, and was on the wrong end of a 15-0 scoreline.

It was a similar story on June 1 when Echuca Moama came up against Strikers, this time going down 7-1.

Adrian Rose managed the lone breakthrough for Echuca Moama, who will need to regroup once again as the competition returns to hiatus.

Its next match in the league will be on Sunday, June 23, when it will take on Mooroopna once again.
