Edward win inaugural George Day Trophy

The winning students of Edward School, George Day and Narelle Labib-Kerr.

Edward Public School has won the very first George Day Trophy following last week’s basketball tournament.

The win holds extra meaning for the Edward crew, as the trophy is named after one of their long-serving and well-loved staff members, George Day.

The tournament, organised by South Public School staff member Luke Moodie, worked as an opportunity for local primary schools to get together and play in a tournament.

It was named after Day in honour of his contribution to both education and basketball within the community.

On the day of the tournament, each school had three teams compete - a boys team, a girls team and a mixed team.

Following the completion of the tournament, scores from the boys and girls sides were tallied to record a school total.

Edward finished with a combined score of 41, with its boys team getting 17 points and the girls earning 24.

Second was St Michael’s School with 20. The boys registered a score of 13 and the girls got seven.

South’s boys team earned six points and the girls had five, for a total of 11.

A Most Valuable Player (MVP) for each school was named from each of their teams, as follows:

Edward Public School: Boys - Reece King; Girls - Meg Meharry; Mixed (social) - Aayliah Clancy.

St Michael’s: Boys - Charlie Murray; Girls - Indi Raper; Mixed - Mitchell Thompson.

South: Boys - Callen Leiper; Girls - Maddie Woolston; Mixed - Laila White.
