Entries open for major fundraising golf day

A major fundraising event on the Deniliquin Golf Club calendar is the annual Corporate Golf Day.

Entries are open for the 2023 version, which will be held on Friday, May 26.

Members and guests are encouraged to support the day to ensure it is a success and plays a role in the club’s ongoing flood recovery efforts.

The format is four-person ambrose with assembly from noon for a 1pm shotgun start. There will be plenty of prizes for leading teams, as well as nearest the pin, longest drive and a putting competition, plus on course refreshments and barbecue.

Golf will be followed by dinner, with guest speakers Shaun Graf and Jamie Murphy.

Bookings for a team of four are $1000, closing May 20; contact Norm Purtill or Adam Wettenhall.

On course over the past week, two popular events have been contested with the ladies vying for the Rita Barnes Goblet and the men trying to win the Borella Cup.

The Goblet winner last Thursday was Kerran Leetham and the Cup winner on Saturday was Leigh Chappell. Both events were stableford.

Leetham also won A-grade on Thursday with 36 points, from runner-up Vicki Hutton 31, and B-grade winner was Jane Glowrey 36 from Ruth Peacock 35.

On Saturday, Chappell won A-grade with 38 on countback to Simon Tilders; B-grade winner was Albert Liebenberg 37 from runner-up Jen Choice 36; and C-grade winner was Des Ramsey 37 on countback to runner-up Ian Campbell.

In Wednesday’s stableford event the A-grade winner was in-form Leigh Chappell who again had 38 points and again won on countback, this time to Thomas Bult. In B-grade Oscar Marshall continued his improvement with an impressive 43 points and another in-form player, Des Ramsey, had to be content with the runner-up prize, this time with 39.

This weekend we have versus par tomorrow, followed by Diggers Day on Sunday, which is four-person ambrose with 11.30am assembly for 12 noon shotgun start.

The usual events are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, and next Saturday is a fourball best ball and qualifying round for the Eastman Knockout.

Members are encouraged to support Friday Night Fun, which continues this evening. Raffle tickets will be on sale from 6pm with draws at 7.30pm. Meals are available tonight and tomorrow night, with reservations preferred. Also, don’t forget the numerous options at the golf club if you are organising a function.
