More than 2,000 locals and visitors brought in the new year with a bang at Echuca Racing Club’s New Year’s Eve Family Fun Day.

Although there was plenty of on-track action through the meet, including eight races with $216,000 in total prizemoney up for grabs.

The first race of the day was the Moama Bowling Club Maiden Plate, which was taken out by the three-year-old filly She Mogul ridden by Harry Coffey.

Echuca Racing Club track manager Jarratt Farley was thrilled with the attendance and overall atmosphere of the day, particularly as it is one of the club’s biggest events.

“We’ve had exceeding 2,000 people here today, which is great to get that kind of turnout, it’s been a great day so far,” he said.

“We just thought it was a great opportunity considering all the tourists over the holiday period to put on a good event that anybody could attend.

“Everyone has looked to be upbeat, so that is really nice to see, plenty of entertainment for everyone, so it’s been quite successful.”
