With just a couple of rounds left in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association season, Echuca Moama sides continue to fight for valuable points.

In the A-grade men’s competition, a pair of unfortunate forfeits for Strikers have allowed Echuca Moama to snag second place by a single point.

Echuca Moama moved up the table courtesy of win over Mooroopna at Echuca College on Saturday.

Ashley Phipps struck twice for Echuca Moama, while William and Thomas Kerr, and Ryan More also contributed to the 5-1 win.

With only two rounds to go, a victory for the locals over Strikers on Sunday would seal a top-two finish for Echuca Moama.

Women

In the women’s competition, Echuca Moama maintained its unbeaten record, earning a hard-fought win over Strikers 3-2.

Goals for Agostina Traglia, Alexandra Wheeler and Courtney Thompson were enough for their side to take the points.

Echuca Moama will finish on top of the ladder, the side well ahead of their nearest rivals on the league table.

The side has a bye in the final round this weekend, as they look towards the semi-finals, beginning on September 7.

B-Grade Men

In B-grade, Echuca Moama was downed by Shepparton Youth Club, 9-1 at Echuca College on Saturday.

The locals (4-10) are set to finish in third place, with Benalla (11-2-1) and SYC (10-2-2) well ahead as the top two.
