After a huge season in the Picola and District Football Netball League, finals get underway this Saturday.

Football and netball clubs throughout the region will be gearing up for a highly anticipated finals fixture — the first in three years due to COVID cancellations.

All the hard work throughout the season will come to a head for some teams, who may be eliminated after this weekend.

Saturday’s elimination final will be held in Jerilderie, and the action will move to Berrigan for another round of finals on Sunday.

The following local teams are in finals contention:

Deniliquin Rovers Football Netball Club:

Football — Reserves (6th on league ladder), under-17s (6th) and under-14s (2nd).

Netball — B-grade (1st), C-grade (1st), C-reserve (1st), under-17s (1st), under-15s (4th) and under-13s (1st).

Blighty Football Netball Club:

Football — Under-14s (7th).

Netball — Under-17s (8th).

Saturday’s finals action will see the Blighty under-17s netball team take on Katandra.

They are the club’s only hope in netball finals this year, and the only local team playing Saturday.

Sunday will see the Deniliquin Rovers reserves side battle it out with Berrigan for a chance to continue through to next weekend’s qualifying final.

The last time these two sides met was in round 14, which saw Deni go down by a devastating one-point.

Rovers will be looking for a taste of revenge and will take no prisoners come Sunday.

Play for the reserves will start at 12.15pm.

Also representing Deni on the football oval on Sunday will be the Rovers thirds, who will go head-to-head with Rennie at 10.25am.

The only other finals contender for Blighty — the under-14s footballers, will also take the field on Sunday with a 9.15am start.

They will take on Katunga.

The remaining Rovers sides head straight into their qualifiers, to be held the following weekend.
