Finley light up Murray League’s night of nights

Paula Gowans won the Murray League C-grade netball best and fairest.

The Finley Cats Football Netball Club were well represented at the Murray League’s presentation night on Sunday.

Nine players were invited to the senior awards night in Moama - Lachlan Hawkins, Luke Moore, Sasha Wood, Peta Gowans, Paula Gowans, Hayley Denny, Jasmine Burke, Sienna Burke and Chelsea McDonald.

Jasmine Burke was named the Rising Star of the Murray League netball competition, capping off a strong year with Finley’s A-grade netball side.

The other two award winners on the night were Peta and Paula Gowans.

The twins took out the C-Reserve and C-grade Best and Fairest’s respectively.

Tom Lang and Lachie Hawkins both placed fifth in the league’s highest honour, the O’Dwyer Medal.

A-grade netballer Chelsea McDonald scored a fourth place finish in the A-grade Best & Fairest.

Hayley Denny was another high place getter, taking out third for the B-grade Best & Fairest, and C-reserve’s Sasha Wood placed ninth in her grade.

The junior grades had their presentations earlier on Sunday, with the Cats again well represented.

Notably Kate Purtill, was named runner-up Best & Fairest in the under-17s netball.

Fellow under-17s netballer Paige Gray placed in eighth.

In the under-13s netball, Marlee Simpson came in seventh and Emilee Sneddon polled in ninth place for the Cats.

Peta Gowans won the Murray League C-Reserve netball best and fairest.
Kate Purtill was runner-up in the under-17s netball best and fairest.
