Mooroopna Golf Club reopened its course last week after a hiatus due to flood damage.

The course had been closed for general play since early October, with its club championships postponed until next year and several other events cancelled.

Mooroopna Golf Club PGA professional Ben Weatherly, who operates the club’s pro shop and driving range, has returned to the shop after it was inundated with floodwater.

Weatherly said the club was overjoyed things were getting back to normal.

“It’s fantastic, it’s good to see members and friends back playing again,” he said.

“The environment is really friendly, the competitions and things at the driving range are getting back to where we should be.”

The club’s junior competitions resumed last night, Weatherly said, also after a lengthy break.

“Our junior golfers are back tonight, it’ll be fantastic to have them back,” he said.

“It will be the first time since April that they’ve played because of winter and then the floods.”

Weatherly was forced to relocate the pro shop to the clubhouse during the flooding and said an immense amount of work had gone into getting the shop and the course back up and running again.

“A big thanks goes to the club, builders and the committee for helping with the pro shop, it’s nice to be back down here again,” Weatherly said.

“The causeway was closed and members still came to help rip up carpet and throw out slat wall.

“Craig Prothero, our general manager, and Andrew Ryan, the leading superintendent, have been flat out in getting the course up to scratch.”

News photographer Holly Daniel got along to Mooroopna Golf Club on Wednesday to capture some of the action.
