A superb knock courtesy of Old Students’ batter Flynn O’Brien has led his side to a three-wicket triumph on day two of their under-14 A-grade Cricket Shepparton clash against Notre Dame-St Brendan’s on Saturday.

The Tigers’ first innings total of 103 posted on the first day almost proved too great for Students after wickets fell early at Victory Park, but their innings was saved by O’Brien’s mature 42 runs from the middle of the order.

Notre Dame-St Brendan’s bowler Jayden Thorne kept his side in the hunt with a terrific spell, snagging two wickets for 12 runs.

Northerners’ under-14 A-grade side meanwhile defied the odds and defended a lowly 80 runs against Tatura, cleaning up the Bulldogs for 69 runs on day two at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve.

Jets bowler Oscar Buckland was lethal with the ball and took three scalps for seven runs, while Kyren Dawson (2-6), Nash Siermans (2-10) and Joel O’Dwyer snagged two wickets apiece.

Meanwhile, Euroa claimed a dominant 89-run triumph over Mooroopna to round out A-grade action.

Shepparton United, Karramomus Team Trevaskis, Nagambie and Old Students picked up wins in the under-14 B-grade bouts.

Notre Dame-St Brendan’s claimed a thrilling under-16 A-grade win after holding off Euroa in its chase of 197 on Friday.

Magpies opener Ethan Saxon carved out a sublime half-century before retiring, while Walter Jackson (47) and Archie Wilson (31) helped put Euroa well on the way at the top of the order.

The Magpies’ tail couldn’t capitalise on the fine work of its top order, however, and managed a commendable 6-164.

Old Students toppled Mooroopna for 61 in the other A-grade fixture, clinching a resounding 176-run win.

Northerners and Nagambie were the winners over Karramomus-Tatura and Waaia in B-grade action.
