Seymour Blasters continued their dominant start to the Country Basketball League North East Men division season at the weekend, annhilating Wangaratta Warriors by 53 points at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday night.
Producing a clinical performance from start to finish, the Blasters won all four quarters by double digits to come away commanding 109-56 victors.
Sporting 11 different scorers, Seymour played an entertaining brand of team-first basketball all night long and put a Wangaratta side that featured just five players to the sword.
Fresh off being the Melbourne Basketball League’s rookie of the year, Keenan Gorski was the standout performer for the Blasters, dropping 22 points to be the top scorer for the match.
Abraham Solano (16), Tyler Best (15), Jack Murphy (15) and Thomas O’Connor were also prominent in the victory.
With a healthy home crowd behind them, the Blasters fed off the energy and produced a stunning opening term.
Firing on both ends of the floor, Seymour piled on a whopping 26 points and held the Warriors to just nine to open up a sizeable 17-point quarter-time advantage.
Well in control of proceedings, the Blasters maintained their pressure through the second stanza, not giving Wangaratta an inch as the margin ballooned out further to 27.
The highlight of Seymour’s play this season has been its ability to not let up, and in the second half it proved that to a tee.
Constantly improving on the offensive end, the Blasters piled on 60 second-half points to blow the margin out past 50 as they strengthened their handsome percentage even further.
The Warriors did fight until the final buzzer, however, in what was a Herculean effort with no available rotations off the bench.
The result extended Seymour’s advantage on top of the table, as it now sports a perfect record of 5-0.
In the earlier contest, Seymour Lady Blasters bounced back from their first loss of the season with a clinical 38-point win over Wangaratta Warriors.
With a full roster of players at their disposal, the Blasters regained their fluency on the offensive end and were ruthless on defence to run out 89-51 victors.
Tayha Watkins was once again the standout for Seymour, recording a game-high 37 points in what was an offensive masterpiece by the Blasters’ go-to girl.
But it was not just the Watkins show at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre, with Jasmine Hunter (12) and Maddison Ford (11) providing valuable contributions in the victory.
A fired up Seymour unit hit the floor on Saturday evening as it produced a stunning first quarter to conquer its demons from seven days earlier.
Taking a 14-point advantage into the first change, the Blasters kept their foot on the throat, winning the remaining three quarters to blow the margin out to a whopping 38 by the final buzzer.
The win saw Seymour maintain its position in second spot on the ladder with an impressive 4-1 record.
Both Blasters teams will enjoy a bye next weekend before returning to the court on Saturday, December 3, against Albury Cougars on the road.
