“I didn’t actually find out until my dad told me and when he did I was like ‘oh my god this is so cool’,” Ahern said.

“It was great, I had actual people to race against and it was just a very enjoyable day.”

The 1500m walk wouldn’t be Ahern’s only taste of success for the weekend, as she also came away with the gold in the under-16 400m and silver in the 100m, 200m and 300m hurdles.

Looking forward, she explained what was next for her as she continues her athletics journey.

“I’ll be competing at states in Melbourne, probably just the walk, but maybe the 400m as well, so that will be great and is something I’m really looking forward to,” she said.
