Could the next Evonne Goolagong or Ash Barty be uncovered in Shepparton?

After the recent Culture on Court event, a spark for tennis may have ignited among youth in the local Indigenous community to follow in the footsteps of some of Australia’s greatest players.

Last Thursday, Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club hosted a day put together by Buldau Yioohgen — a program run by Anglicare Victoria — in partnership with Tennis Victoria to offer ‘deadly cultural activities while enjoying a game of tennis’.

First Nations children and their families gathered in the morning for a welcome to country and smoking ceremony before hooking into a slate of engaging and immersive activities.

News photographer Megan Fisher was in attendance to capture the kids in their element.
