Pine Lodge Cricket Club entertained its junior cricketing ranks in a fun and thoroughly summer-appropriate way during the week.
Cricket balls were ditched in favour of water balloons as the young Lodgers ran amok during one of the activities attached to the club’s junior cricket Christmas party on Tuesday night.
The kids would exchange their Kookaburra willows for water cannons and super soakers, lapping up every opportunity to cool off as the temperature gradually rises across the Goulburn Valley.
It’s been an excellent time on the pitch as well for the youngsters, with all three of the club’s cohorts — under-14, under-12 and mixed under-10 — enjoying winning records ahead of the festive break.
President Travis Waters paid tribute not only to the fun and laughs of the day, but the burgeoning participation in the youth ranks at his club.
“There had to have been 50 or 60 kids there. The kids all had a ball,” Waters said.
“It was probably ideal that it wasn’t too hot, so everyone was pretty happy.
“We’re chock full and almost overflowing in juniors; we’ve got probably 35 running around for us, with a couple of our under-16 kids playing at Northerners this season.
“The reason we jumped up to A-grade was because if these kids are going to play that level, we want it to be at our club.”
There’s still one more order of business to take care of before the official break-up, with the under-12 side due to take on Northerners away on Friday afternoon.
News photographer Megan Fisher was on hand to capture the water fight’s fun and frivolity from all angles.
