Forget ring toss or balloon darts, this carnival was the real deal.
The Mooroopna All Abilities Football Netball Carnival had all the fun one could want at an event of its type, bringing those of each and every background together for a bumper day out under the sun.
Run in conjunction by AFL Goulburn Murray and Netball Victoria on September 4, the carnival drew a big attendance as participants from the wider Goulburn Valley and beyond descended on Mooroopna for an all-inclusive sporting experience.
Valley Sport project officer Heath Wharton said last week’s carnival welcomed its biggest attendance yet as the event celebrated its 10-year anniversary.
“It was our 10th edition of the carnival, and this year we saw a record number of teams - 11 netball and eight football which was pretty much us at capacity,” he said.
“So it was a great day.
“Teams from as far as Horsham came - we had a football team and a netball team from Horsham - and then the rest of the teams were around the Goulburn Valley; Cobram, Wangaratta, Seymour.”
All abilities participants varying from school kids, adults from day service providers and members of feeder football teams engaged in shortened games on the court and oval.
Though no score was kept, each side selected their best team player at the end of the day for a medal presentation.
