Goulburn Valley Playing Area action popped and fizzed on day one, with the reigning Edna Harling Shield premier sunk in Tuesday’s season opener.

Shepparton Golf strolled onto home greens ready to begin its title defence, but now finds itself at the bottom of the table after a devastating loss to the hand of Shepparton Park.

The Parkers scored a 16-59 to 0-36 win on the road, spurred on by Di Hands’ quartet notching a whopping 22-13 third rink victory.

It wasn’t the only upset, either.

Last season’s other midweek pennant grand finalist, Seymour, bowed out by 23 shots to East Shepparton.

Though the first and third set of ends were close in nature, Kelvin Cox skipped East to a 33-6 triumph in the second rink to send shock waves through the competition.

In division one’s other games, Kyabram defeated Euroa 14-63 to 2-51, while promoted division two premier Tallygaroopna started life in style, rolling Tatura-Hill Top 14-52 to 2-49.
